When I put my nose to the top of the stove, on the right side, there’s a subtle but present propane gas odor. It’s on the pilot light side of the stove. I’ve done some reading, and it seems like this can happen when the pilot light is on too strong. How do I adjust the pilot light/turn down it down?

thanks

What is the millivolt reading on the thermopile?
That is the only way if you can tell if a pilot is "Too Strong."
Having said that, if you smell gas, with only the pilot is lit,
& the glass is tightly sealed, the gas
has to be coming from outside the fire box.
Have you checked the incoming gas line TO the valve?
Have you checked the tube from the valve to the pilot?
Have you checked to see if the regulator head is tightly connected?

i dont smell any gas underneath the unit, near the connectors that I can see. Don’t have a tool to test the millivolts. I shut off the gas valve and guess I need to call a pro in. Do you know where the regulator head is on the unit?

How long have you had the stove?
Did you just start noticing the smell?

If you are burning LP for fuel, & there is a leak,
you will smell it BELOW the unit & not ABOVE.
LP is heavier than air.

The Hi - Lo knob is part of the regulator head.
Pretty sure the screws are T20 Tamper-proof.
Put some soapy water on all the gas fittings,
including around the regulator,
but try to avoid getting too much on the wiring.
Look for additional bubbles forming. There's your leak.

The stove is in a family cabin, purchased like eight years ago. I’m sure it’s older than that. Yeah I know that propane sinks, so it’s odd that we just smell it at the top above the pilot area. No smells underneath the unit, so that’s good.

Check the pilot tube, where it connects to the pilot assembly.
