We recently had a new Harman Accentra 52i insert placed in our fireplace. We were excited to hear that we should have little to no odor with a pellet stove. You can imagine our disappointment when we run this beautiful stove and have to open the windows to air out the sooty/smokehouse smell the stove blows around. We noticed that the room blowers seem to suck air from behind the insert (from the creosote coated chimney) as opposed to fresh room air. This makes absolutely no sense to me. Does this seem correct? Is there any way to correct this so we aren’t constantly smelling the inside of our old chimney???

The chimney has to be thoroughly and completely cleaned before the liner is put in. Was this done? What did they put in for a liner and does this go all the way up to the top of the chimney?

If it is a brand new stove, it will need to be run on Highest setting for an hour or 2 to get any oils used in the manufacturing burned off. Also the paint will off gas and cure. The order’s should dissipate.
