Just started up my biomax for the first time and got loads of smoke coming out what appeared to be the chimney seems. in the class b . They put class b in due to tight space up untill it goes through the roof then went to class a . I noticed there was no refractory cement used however which is what the manufacfturer recommends. do the seems get joined with the stuff incuding seems in elbows? Anyone familiar with this?

I ran into a similar problem last year and it was caused by a poor draft due to a restriction in the chimney caused by creosote...

just started my biomax up and had same problem. mine is black stove pipe into double wall class A. i think since it is a forced draft setup this is why we have more leaks from the stove pipe. i sealed it up with high heat DAP mortar stuff form lowes and all is well no more smoke leaking. this is my second day burning and wow what a difference in performance of the boimax lots more heat.

Is that like a caulk? Did you take apart the black pipe and put it in the seems or just put it on the seems without taking apart?

yes like a caulk. made by DAP says its a mortar on the tube good to 2000 degree but i doubt it. its been doing well so far.
