Solar cell generates hydrogen while producing electricity

  • Active since 1995, Hearth.com is THE place on the internet for free information and advice about wood stoves, pellet stoves and other energy saving equipment.

We strive to provide opinions, articles, discussions and history related to Hearth Products and in a more general sense, energy issues.

We promote the EFFICIENT, RESPONSIBLE, CLEAN and SAFE use of all fuels, whether renewable or fossil.
At 20.2% combined efficiency, you could use traditional PV cells and come out ahead. Use the power generated for electrolysis if you really need some hydrogen.

Still, it'll be neat if they come up with a more efficient flavor. That'd be good in a car in the winter (Electricity to run the motors, hydrogen to run a little internal combustion engine for cabin heating and battery charging). The cabin heater is a bit of a weak spot for electric cars.
