Hello all,

New to the forum but long time lurker. I am recently in the process of installing an Englander 17-VL in my living room. After being screwed by several contractors i have decided to do the install myself. I am mechanically inclined and do not doubt my skills, but I could use some help from the seasoned wood burning veterans. I am installing the the stove in my living room, and using a wall thimble to pass through to my garage. I will be using double wall pipe from the stove to the thimble.

Now, from the thimbles "T" in the garage do i need to attach the triple wall class A to a ceiling support box? or can the Class A triple wall running from the "T" run straight through the attic and be supported by the flashing/support brackets? I am only passing through about 20 inches of un-insulated attic. Of course i will maintain at least 2 inches to combustibles. Or do i need to adapt the "T"s triple wall class A to a ceiling support box to pass through the roof? I am using duravent chimney.

The instructions can be a little difficult to understand. I attached a photo from the manual to show the exact setup i would like to use. Unfortunately i have already missed this years burning season but would greatly appreciate some help to get me going for next year. Thanks in advance!

Just to clarify, the garage has an uninsulated attic and the question is how to handle the class A chimney passing through the attic floor. Is that correct? If so, all that is needed to go through the floor is a firestop with an attic insulation shield on top, or continue the chimney chase up to the underside of the roof. If you are using DuraPlus chimney then this is what it looks like. It gets a storm collar on top.

Great, that is exactly my question. So no need for a through the roof kit? My triple wall class A from the T will pass through firestop instead? Then the flashing collar on exterior of the roof? I appreciate your response and patience. Thanks!

Yes, that's right. The attic insulation shield also gets a storm collar as a cap, same as the roof flashing. The chimney should also have a brace attached to garage wall up high near the ceiling in addition to it's bottom tee support.

I also see you referring to it as triplewall. If you have not bought it yet the doublewall insulated chimney pipe is far superior to the triple wall stuff. The triple wall is perfectly safe but it simply does not perform as well.

Thank you all very much, unfortunately i have already purchased the triple wall setup, i believe it wil work well enough for me. I will return the through the ceiling kit and i have purchased the fire stop, radiation shield, 2 collars and the roof flashing. Everyone has been very helpful and i now feel fully confident!
