I just received an order from Northline Express for a Rutland 6" poly brush, 5 sections of 4' long fiberglass rods with 3/8" nipple, and 40lbs of fatwood. Because the order was over $99 EVERYTHING was shipped for free, and arrived in 3 days! Best of all, the 40lbs of fatwood cost me $39.99 DELIVERED!!! I thought that was an excellent price seeing that my local dealer sells a 1lb bag for about $8! Just wanted to pass along the info in case anyone needs some...

$1.00 a pound is definitely better than $8.00

You could divy it all up and sell it for $4.00 a pound and be the next Bill Gates! :ahhh:

With all of these pine trees on my place, I think I am going to whack up the stumps and become the next Bill Gates. Not as ugly, just as rich.

I think I have about 2 cords of the stuff in my yard. I'd be glad to sell you a 1/2 a cord of the stuff. I figure 1/2 cord of that wood weighs about 500 lbs....A buck a pound sounds like a fair price to me.

:-)

Gotta be the stumps Warren. The pitch concentration is in the stumps.

You would not believe what happens when you touch a match to those old pine stumps that you see in the woods that look like old rotted wood. The suckers explode.

Cool!!!! I'll be right back... "Hey kids let's go outside I want to give somethin a try...bring the camp lighter"

good quality georgia fatwood typically sells for $7/4 lbs and $15/10 lbs. $8/lb is crazy. maybe a typo???

When I was a kid, my two brothers and I would be responsible for starting and maintaining the camp fire at the property up north. The first thing we would look for is the old pine stumps brotherbart described. There was allot of them scattered in the woods with the inside rotted out but the outside layer was always dry and easy to pull apart. Seems these were the remnants of a forest fire along time ago and you could still see some of the old charred areas.

This wood would make starting a camp fire easy, and it would always burn hot. I never new it was called fatwood, and I never really realized why they would burn so well untill reading this thread. Some of those stumps were 4 or 5 feet accross. I still come accross them when out hunting or just out for a walk.

Looks like I need to save some and bring it home, but the old stumps look so nice sitting out in the woods I almost feel bad for tearing them apart. KD

That is a really good price on Fat Wood!

Some of you may know already, but for those who don't: Home Despot routinely sells 4LB bags of Fatwood for $5.99 and sometimes less. It's usually in a cardboard display near the registers or by the lawn tools.

Regards,
Howard

So the fatwood is nothing but pine stump? heck with the pine beetles taking down all the trees behind my house I could just go out there and cut my own.

No typo! The nursery down the street sells 1lb burlap bags of fatwood for $7.99. I've seen a lot of online dealers selling 20lb boxes for around $40, so I thought double that amount for the same price was a great deal - especially since shipping was FREE.
