I borrowed a buddies infa-red temp gauge from work. I re-fueled my stove when I got home from work yesterday - coals still left in stove (insert, pictured, with the 'firewood for sale sign)from earlier in A.M. , temp on front wall right above door (hottest point on stove) was about 250 °F at start. After adding a full load of oak and cherry splits - temp SOARED to about 800 °F in about 15 minutes. I slowly closed the one and only air control on my stove over the next 15 minutes or so until fully closed. Initial blaze dissipated until only a beautiful secondary burn flowed from burn tubes. Fuel lasted in 'solid' form for about 2- 2/1/2 hours, and then cruised until only coals left- re-fueled at bedtime(11:30 P.M.). Temps dropped about a hundred degrees an hour, was about 265 °F at last re-fuel. Does this seem to be about 'normal' experience for you guys? This stove is so different from my old Large Dutchwest Cat (also pictured). Any advice on operation? I have to say I'm pretty pleased so far with results(...and so are Molly and Maggie
). I just wanted to make sure I was not overfiring the stove. The temp readings I mentioned were at THE HOTTEST point on stove. The area (top) just above this point was always about 50-75 °F cooler.
