Anyone have any experience with the Speeco Log Cradle. It is on sale at TSC for $39.99. I have the 22 ton Huskee splitter and wondering if it worth the trouble and if so is that a good price for the Speeco cradle. Opinions welcome.
I also have a Huskee 22T with the Speeco log cradle and I definitely recommend it. Logs will slide from vibration but some anti-skid tape solves that. Could also use anti-skid paint if available. I used blue loctite to keep the bolts from loosening. FWIW I also painted a line across the beam and across the log cradle for the longest log that fits my stove. Anything past the marks get trimmed.
I have one on my Huskee 35-ton splitter. It keeps the half of a larger split log at working height while you work on the other half, and it doesn't get in the way when splitting in vertical. It's worth getting, IMO.
Have one too. Essential accessory. When horizontal, helps you stage smaller rounds, and holds the splits when you're doing big stuff.
When it's vertical, guys I split with have said they feel it can get in your way just a bit if you're wrestling monster rounds, but small price to pay for what it does in the horizontal.
I bought this cradle a while ago and like it but have found that the bolts that go into the pre-tapped holes on the upper part of the splitter are barely long enough. They don't have much room to play with since these bolts are threaded into the splitter where the wedge rides along the beam assembly. I wish they would have fabricated something that threaded below the beam assembly vs through it. That's my biggest complaint but other than that, it works like a charm.
