I have a theory that those of us with small fireboxes need to re-split in order to have apples-to-apples comparisons about stove performance and wonder if there are any studies to support or disprove the theory? The guy with the 3 ft3 firebox loading up with five or six 4" splits is going to have a different experience that the 2 or 3 I can fit in my 1.4 ft3 firebox, right? In order to compare apples to apples my splits would need to be 2-3", right? Thanks for any insight. (edited firebox size - thanks rdust)

I believe the EPA test fuel is different based on stove size. I'm not 100% sure but I remember reading something about it before.

You're also looking for ft3 for firebox size, not ft2. ;)

The Century has a small firebox. I load 3 regular sized splits into it on a reload. Smaller splits have a larger surface area and will burn faster. I want them to burn slower so I get a longer burn. There isn't any way I'm going to get the same experience burning the Century as I do with the Englander. It's 3x the size. I get 3X the heat and almost 3x the time between reloads.
