Ive got two stains on my center stone.
I dont know how they got there or what substance caused the stains.
At first I thought the stone was bleeding the substance.
But the second stain is under & on top of the thermomiter.
That rules out the bleeding stone .
Anyway water / water & ashes did not remove the stain.
Need some help from you Soapstone Guys.
thanks ,doug

Doug, you might get some real fine steel wool. 0000 is what you need. This will also get scratches out of soapstone.

Thanks Dennis
My wife just brought some home & it did remove the stain.

How is that Equinox working out?

So far I got it up to 500 .
I think a 2 / 4 hour run at 550 /600 will complete the break-in.
I eliminated the ash pan & have the ash pit filled with ash.
Two pieces of soapstone in place of the cast iron grates.
Those two pieces of stone remain hot 24 hours after the last load of wood.
Its going to be a great 24/7 burner.
It seem equally happy cranking along at 500 with a full load dampened down to 5/10%.
As it is burning one split at a time at 300 degrees with 50 % primary air.
