Our stove is a bit underpowered for this leaky, poorly insulated house in cold temps. It doesn't overheat the place when temps are in the 30's. Except sometimes with no wind, the wife will still crack open a door or window. In the teens and below, the stove may get a little help from the propane furnace.

Just lit the stove for the evening. I ain't even gonna see a sixty degree house on my watch.
Amen, Brother. I've gotten real used to 70. I imagine the stove will be burning for a couple more months yet. But with the Fireview and the small house, fewer/smaller fires have cut my wood usage in half this season.

It's weird, I think it depends on the house. 70 at the Old House feels cold, 70 at the Cottage is about as warm as I need, above 74 seems hot. The Cottage certainly isn't better insulated and has more glass surface and still has several original windows. It's on a slab instead of piers though.

To me 70 feels like 20 below, even 74 feels cold to me but what to do expect when you are used to 85 to 90 :bug:

Yep everyone has their feel good temps. I keep my house in the mid 70's during the summer and target low 70's during the winter. If I could afford to keep my house in the 68-70 range in the summer I would.

With the old stove I tried to convince myself I liked the upper 70's during the winter, I actually had myself believing it for a while. I had to buy a new stove to get back on track.

Still feels like winter up here . . . although we've had some warm days . . . doesn't look anything like winter though with a serious lack of snow in most places. I did ride the sled on Sunday, but I had to trailer it north.

Daffodils . . . unbelievable . . . brother-in-law from CT called to tell me they were already popping up and blossoming . . . very surprising . . . especially given the fact of the record snow fall in CT last year.
