Feeling the Heat
I have a ChiCom made cast iron potbelly that has been stored in the barn for ages. I bought it new about 25 years ago and used it for a couple of years until one could see fire through gaps in the joints where the "sealant compound" had deteriorated. Looking to resurrect it for temporary heat in the shop and was wondering; what would be the preferred method of sealing the joints? I thought of using the glass "gasket material" such as is used on stove doors rather than the compound. We will probably be burning primarily coal. Any thoughts?

I’d use stove cement. Gasket material might work though.
