I have to admit that I've talked a lot of trash about tulip poplar on this forum but I processed one today that impressed the heck out of me. Freshly split and the MC was only 12%! It had been toppled in the wind storm a month ago and was standing dead for a while before that. I figured it was pretty well seasoned already because it was only about 10" DBH and the bark was just starting to come off, but I'm used to oak and never figured that it'd be burnable as soon as I split it. I'm still not a huge fan but I've certainly developed a little more respect for it.

Tulip poplar is great wood. Very light and strong. It doesn't have a ton of BTUs though, but is good to mix in. it does dry well, but will rot super fast if it sits on the ground. usually grows nice and tall and straight, so is usually super easy to split also.
