Has anyone had a Superior's WCT6940 / Astira Montecito Estate fireplace installed?

We were looking to have a fireplace installed and get the EPA tax credit. We don't have a chimney so we would need that built also. About 30 feet worth.

We got a quote for 40k to include the Superior WCT6940, snap pack chimney, Chimney Chase and Materials and labor.

Is this about the going price for fireplaces + chimneys or is this way off?

$40k is pretty high, even for a very tall chase. It will depend on whether the finishing details are included. Is it getting special exterior treatment like a stone or brick veneer?
Is the installer sub-contracting the chase build? If so, an option might be to have the chase done to spec by a good general contractor to reduce costs. Many are used to doing fireplace installs. The important part is to find one that will do it properly without cutting corners.

Thanks for the reply!

They weren’t going to do any special veneer and I believe they were going to do the case, but I would have to confirm.

It was a bit of stickers shock as I generally thought prefab would be cheaper and most home improvement websites tended to give a much lower price range.

My thinking was if building a smaller or less efficient zc fireplace is going to set me back 30k might as well go big and get the tax credit. I just haven’t been able to get any other quotes to compare if this is anything within the normal price range.

Did you get some general contractor quotes for building the chase and enclosure? By choosing a different fireplace a good contractor should be complete the job for around $15k unless there are complications.

Let me try and get some quotes on that, I got quotes on the superior and majestic fireplaces and the cheapest was just under 30k
