Anyone have any experience with Superior's WCT6940 fireplace? What is the difference between a high efficiency fireplace and a stove (insert or free standing)? Is it more about how it is mounted/installed? I briefly saw some posts about the new 2020 EPA standards - I looked at the database and this stove is 2020 certified - correct?

I posted a thread a little while back explaining that our house burned down in April. We are meeting with the builder tomorrow to finalize the plans for our new house, and I think that this fireplace will work for us but I haven't had much time to research it since we are trying to figure out every little detail on an entire house. I am not sure I want a catalytic fireplace but I haven't looked at it much. It has been overwhelming to go from content in our old house to planning a new house in a few short weeks so any help everyone can offer would be appreciated. Our last stove was a wood insert (Quadra-Fire 4100i).

With the new house, we are going to put a vent from the fireplace into the finished basement which will be nice over what we had before. Does this model blow air directly out of it or do we need a separate vent for the main room too? The manual shows an optional HeatFlo Air kit that I thought was just for ducting to a different room but it looks like we need that for the main room too?

Should I consider any other options? It has to be a wood fireplace similar to this with venting options and an arched door. We cannot do an insert and a freestanding stove is not going to work with what we are doing.

My head hurts looking at every single piece that goes into a house. My wife thinks this is fun, but I just have a headache!

I haven't seen one, but on paper this looks like the Montecito Estate which is now sold under the Astria brand, another IHP company. If so, it's been around for awhile.

I don't know anything about that particular fireplace or the montecitto, but a tried and tested option would be the pacifac energy fp30. Many threads on here regarding the performance they provide. They are now 2020 compliant, but I am not sure what changes they may have made for compliancy. As far as house questions start a thread in the diy section, there's a plethora of smart people around here.

That looks like the exact same one.

I'll look into the FP30. We are mainly overwhelmed with the various design options for the house. We finally have the house layout set, but keep going back and forth with various options for finishings.
