Dear Tapatalk friends,

I am thinking of eventually dropping support for the tapatalk program on Hearth.com.

The reasons are many - but, basically, from a technical viewpoint - tapatalk (a small chinese company) ends up having access to 100% of our data and rebroadcasting it. That's a security nightmare because they aren't google - just a small private company. In effect, we are trusting them with full administration privileges and more!

The ONLY reason we installed tapatalk last year was because the existing forum "theme" was not compatible with smaller screens. A month ago we updated the forum so that most of the features should automatically fix on most any screen.

Tapatalk is used by about 35 of our visitor daily - out of a total of 15,000 unique daily visitors. Still, I know it may be important and useful for many of you, which is why I am not just yanking it but rather asking you to try something else and comment here.....

So, if you would, could you please try the site in a regular browser and let me know your comments here? I think most parts (other than banner ads) should automatically resize. I may even be able to fix the banner ad issue.

Thanks!

I have no issue with using the browser...

I often browse the forum using tapatalk. But I can appreciate the concerns and would just as willingly use a browser - i'm most often on an ipad these days. It was most helpful when using an iphone. If the forum now has a mobile footprint then it would seem fine.

i can see theconcerns esp since AS has been hacked for months. but untill now, not tried without tapatalk yet, the sire was a disaster on a phone. but i like apps as they load faster , your cursor tracks faster when replying and you dont the those jumbled up adds. please find or make your own app. also my free version of tapatalkk is not letting me use it anymore and wants to sell me a new one so now is the time to find a new app

I would seriously consider trying ohub if your dead set on dumping tapatalk. As you can see the regular site doesn't "fit" the screen on an android RAZR max phone. I tried to reply on the main site but just way too much trouble.

I do use ohub for 1 forum and from what I can tell its the same as tapatalk.... looks, features, and speed. The main site is much slower to load and that using 4g. Hope this helps!

Actually, other than the banner ad (mentioned before) it looks like the forum fits perfectly.

While I am at it, let me ask you tapatalk and mobile users a personal question!
::-)

Given the difficultly of typing longer and more detailed stuff on the phone keypads, do most of you use TT mostly for monitoring the forums and short answers as opposed to the longer and more detailed stuff you do when at a full keyboard?

I find Tapatalk to be very convenient. It keeps all the forums that I visit in one place. I visit the forums multiple times per day from a mobile device and will likely no longer do so if it is not on Tapatalk(or another similar or stand alone app).

I have done everything on my phone almost exclusively as the wife has the laptop most times. It is easier on a phone. I post pics off phone and its way easier in the app. And also it would be a pain to put them on the computer then post to the forum. I can post in the woods, at work, in the truck, in the yard, in my work area, . The app is way easier. It takes forever to start a laptop etc. And yea monitoring and instant posts is the benefit off the app. DO yourself a favor and keep an app. You will looses a lot of folks traffic if they can't easily navigate with one. Plus the easy start feature of an app. Not having to open browser and hit a tap or a bookmark.

If I knew how to screen crap on this phone I would but it only formats to a strip that occupies 40% of my screen. I have to manually fit it to the screen. I will keep trying to grab it.

Yes I typed this on my phone.

I use tapatalk and my phone for about 95% of my hearth browsing for both short and long responses. If I happen to be at a computer then I will use the computer. I probably am not a highly active responder though.

Justin was typing as I was and beat me to it.

You will be going backwards if u drop your app:confused:

I don't come on much and not much of a contributor. I will say I use TT for all my forum browsing and don't like the ones that don't. It won't stop me from getting on the site but TT is so much easier for me since most of my browsing anymore is on my phone.

I also use dark mode in the Tapatalk app to save battery. I use the app exclusively now for browsing the forums for the previously mentioned reasons (speed, size, battery savings).

With that said, I'll check out the browser.

No, look at the right hand side of the screen. I can zoom in to eliminate the "blue side" but then you will lose the "readable "screen.

I am a happy user of tapatalk. I visit the forum on my phone and find the App very user friendly. If there was no app, I probably wouldnt visit nearly as often. I am not a huge contributor so no one will miss me, but sharing my 2 cents.

I bought the app a few months ago for the kindle and it seems to work ok. But honestly, I did fine viewing the site with Silk on the kindle as well.

At the end of the day, the safety and security of this place is paramount.

Kill the app if it's a risk.

it started to load right then loaded like the screenshot i am posting. then it loaded riht. im not sure if ur monkeying with it bit seems like my screen is sizing to the add banners. but the last times i visited the page it was just how the screenshot shows it..

That and the site is a pain to attach pics with. I had to use the app to get the pic in as the site was not cooperating.??

I'm flexible, app or no app I will still be here. The one thing I like with the app is uploading files is easy.

Push notifications is a nice feature.

Works fine on my Nexus 7 on Chrome and Opera. Thanks for the update.
