I have mine setup at my exhaust and my max alarm is 600, but I have a cat stove so it tends to run a bit cooler than tube stoves. I set the max at 600 to let me know to close the damper if I forget to engage the cat.

I want it more for high alarm than anything. Same idea, leave draft open. Got kids now so it seems easy to get distracted while your firing up. Had over fire a few times. Wife is home on mat leave so it will be good that we both can get the hi alarms no mater where we are
