I always like the open sided "Scandavian Fireplaces" from the 60's

Way better when they were open all the way around :)
 
My parents had that exact fireplace! It was in a closed in porch!

Our house had one of these growing up. Single wall pipe. These things though tons of heat for a fireplace.
 
The "Flat Screen Style Fireplace" looks like a wide urinal.
