So after a long discussion about the Ashford, I spent yesterday going around to 4 different dealers and asking a few questions about various models. I looked at Regency, Avalons, Pacific Energy, Osburn and Nordica. I also like the Englander 30nc.
The Osburn 2400 looks to be a nice stove, but the price was a bit high, $2,045 (8.34% sales tax not included) before $200 in rebates.
Pacific Energy stoves were around the same range, but I just didn't feel it with any of those stoves.
Regency, honestly, I don't remember much about these except the price, which was over budget.
The Nordica 2100 for $1521, before taxes looked like a decent stove.
I checked out the Woodstock stoves online (they have no dealers) and I feel that the stove I would want from them would be out of the price range. The plain model with no extras is $1,800 (delivered). I have contacted them to see if perhaps the price would be lower if we picked it up directly. I have a cousin out that way who visits us from time to time and could maybe bring one back with him.
I really liked the Avalon 1750 (Spokane) for $1735. It seems like a quality built stove and if it is like our Avalon pellet stove at home, it must be.
By the way, the structure I will be heating is a 30' yurt with about 6,833 cubic feet in volume and 709 SQ feet of floor space. There is minimal insulation (Reflectix).
Well, the downside is, nobody had any cat stoves to look at. I could order a blaze king Princess or Ashford but they were way above budget, like $2,700 and up.
Right now, I am deciding against the Avalon stove and the Englander and MAYBE the Ideal Steel. I just don't see what the major difference is between the two to justify spending almost $1,000 more for the Avalon. I could see it with the Steel because you are getting a cat stove with longer burn time.
What are your thoughts?
