I found this online: THERMAFIBER Mineral Fiber Safing Insulation. I can get it wicked cheap.
Is this the same as what folks refer to as "rock wool" or "kaowool" and various other names?
(Their website does mention "smoke containment systems" - I think I'll start referring to my chimney, liner, and stove pipe as "smoke containment systems" from now on - then I'll sound wicked smaht.)
 
Good to 2,000 degrees and it won't burn. Sounds like the same stuff to me. I'd use it myself. Un-faced of course.
