For a Napoleon 1101 insert, where would you put a magnetic therm and which one would you buy?

Or is IR the best tool for the job on inserts? Also, any decently priced IR's out there? Looked at Lowes and a dewalt was $200 bucks here in Canada.

My insert is pretty flush and with the surround flashing, cannot see the flue/pipe.
