Think I may have killed my P-38 during the power outage

I was running off the generator and it warmed up so I shut the stove down. I left it plugged into the surge protector but my generator has been acting weird like its not supplying enough power to run things. Anyway I went to start my stove and nothing. What can I do? and what will I need to replace? I wish I had remembered to unplug it, I may have saved myself a lot of heartache

Are you sure you're plugged into an outlet that has power? I would first check that the stove is getting power. Perhaps the surge protector is dead or a circuit breaker has blown open.

yep, outlet is powered. I removed the surge protector and hooked a light in directly into the outlet. Tried the stove direct with no surge protector but no go

Check all the fuses on the stove's control board(s) and any that my be inline within the stove. Check all wires, make sure that they are connected correctly within the stove from the control board(s).

Reading some different posts there is a very good possibility I fried the board...let's hope not. That's about $300

Yup, hope it's just the fuse and not the board...Every once in a while P38 boards come up on Ebay. If not shop the net and you'll find them cheaper than 300.00

odds are you don't have one on hand anyway, just take it to the hardware store or radio shack and have them match it, why wait for the kids .............

Its very close to the end of the season. Another 50+ day here and the state had its first grass fire.

If you have to purchase a board for a fix, keep the old one and have it repaired ... that way in the dead of winter you have a spare handy should problems occur again.

Already?? Figure this will be a bad one in our area too as snowfall was down this year. BIL retired from the water bomber but nephew (his son) still doing the job.

We had only about 20 inches for the year instead of the nearly 60 inches. Lost most of the snow in Dec and Jan and got a half foot in late February. So wasn't to hard to get rid of the white stuff. Opening golf courses around the state. Almost a month early.

I see you found your blown fuse, but I would just point out:

I know it seems obvious, but surge protectors protect against power surges. If your generator has fluctuating voltage, especially low voltage, that's not going to be prevented by a surge protector. You need a battery backup or an Automatic Voltage Regulator, which might help, but even those have limitations, given that relatively inexpensive ones only correct voltage +/- about 12 volts, so if your generator is pushing out 100 volts, the AVR might boost it to 112 volts, that sort of thing.

....So far it seems as though I got off easy, replaced the fuse and it took off....phew. Thanks for all the help folks. I've been really lucky but it's time to start stocking some spare parts

If you need a magnifying glass, and have a smart phone, most platforms have a magnifier app. you aim the camera at the piece and the screen shows it magnified. Its not as good as a high quality glass lens but it does the trick in a pinch.
