My youngest kid, my two shepherds, and a lot of firewood. The Holz is 9' x 12' (sitting on 9 pallets) and about 8' high. I estimate that is is comprised of approximately 6 1/2 cords. The stuff on the ground will be the start of another Holz once I get some more pallets.

Mostly oak, some birch, and some hemlock I believe.

Now that's a stack of wood. I'm jealous! :vampire:

Thats a very nice holz of wood. This is my first year with splitting and stacking wood.I started stacking my wood in the holz at 7'round 8' heigh and all the oak and ash that I put in that holz has checks all ready and I stack it a month ago.
will that oak be ready this coming season? Do you think that the holz seasons faster?
I think it looks likes great. With them dogs nobody getting any wood

Very nice stack of wood you have. Lots of work getting it to this point but it will be well worth it next winter.

Carl,

From everything I have read the wood will be ready for this winter. The dogs are more of a early warning system if someone decides they want in the house.

Wow! Nice Holz. Let us know how that wood dries out in the middle. I made two 8x8' HH's a couple years ago and the center dried just as well as the outside, but yours is much bigger. Good luck climbing that thing in the winter to retrieve wood.

Pyro,

Thanks for the compliment. Hopefully the center will dry properly. As for climbing on it, I just plan to keep a short fiberglass step ladder outside for that purpose.

Mike

Is there any reason why you can't add another ring around the outside of your HH?

Matt

Matt,

I don't have enough pallets to do that. Plus it might keep the wood in the center from drying. There are 2 concentric rings around the outside as it is, and then wood stacked vertically to fill the center.

That is a nice stack of wood. Where did you get it? Did you cut it yourself, grapple load?

Another member on this board was kind enough to invite me to help clear a woodlot. I rented a 6x12 open trailer from U-Haul and made 6 trips.

Excellent pile. You can be proud. I just love looking at the photos.

Nice job ! just scored some nice free wood myself, and was concidering the HH stack, after seing yours i do think I will

And hey Mike...does your shepherd think that is just a big pile of toys....or is it just mine who likes to walk around with a chunk of my fire wood?

Nice pile of winter heat there! :)

From another thread, it seems that firewood thefts might become an issue....your dogs may have to do double duty.

That is, assuming they aren't as friendly as our dogs, who have never met a stranger they didn't like :(

I have about 5 cord stacked. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to tear it down and restack it. We are having a carport type of shelter installed and I have to get the wood out of the way! :(

Wood Wacker,

My female shepherd Mercedes (the larger one standing and in my avatar) does think that the wood pile is her personal toy box. It is not uncommon to see her laying in the grass gnawing on a large split. Of course she also enjoys digging up a rock she smells under several inches of grass and dirt and gnawing on those too.

CT-mike- nice pile of wood. were in CT are you so i can come get some of it:-p

I have about 4 cords stacked(in rows on pallets) and probably 2 more split for next year waiting to be stacked, and 1.5 left over from last year. Hoping to put up about 10 before mid summer...

Stew

i thought my dog was crazy...when i go to play with wood, she has to come too.

and if i don't give her a split to play with she just yells at me until she gets one.
Too funny.

my wife thinks we're both crazy.

This is a man with wood..................
