I did mention before that I do use a key damper and try not to close it more than a 45° angle. Does closing down a key damper some promote creosote buildup? I am finding that it is necessary to slow the draft a bit to help build the firebox temp and get those lazy flame with complete combustion. I just don't want a problem with closing it down but also don't want all of the heat up the chimney.
