A relative of mine has an Avalon Olympic and I beleive an 8" chimney (pre-existing)..Anywyas, he has been having some difficulty with controllign the stove. He says that it drafts so hard it at times will really slam the door shut if it is cracked open etc...Does anyone one know of a chimney cap that would reduce some of the draft?

Not sure about a cap but have you thought about a damper in the stove pipe?

Best to let the stoves damper inlet sytem control the draft than restrict it at the top or with a pipe damper. A restrictive cap will indeed reduce the draft, but it may also clog quicker and decrease the quality of the burns he gets from the stove.

If it is slamming the door shut when it is open a crack, he likley doesn't need to have the door open, unless his wood is too wet and he can't keep it going without the door open.
