This is one of the few trees I can’t id on my walks through town. Early spring it had long seed pods like a black locust/ honey locust tree. It has fairly large leaves. If anyone can help me ID that would be greatly appreciated.
Catalpa (cigar tree). Bunches of cigar-shaped fruit pods. Distinctive heart-shaped leaf.
One of few trees with whorled leaf arrangement.
Light density wood with unusual smell. Near the bottom for firewood - 14.8 MBtu/ Cord
It should be flowering about now - big showy white flowers.
Catalpa hornworm feeds on it (good for fishing bait).
