As usual, i stoped by TSC this morning, only place close to get nuts and bolts. They allready have their stoves and stuff out. I saw the standard line up of inefficient clayton and hot blast crap, but I also noticed a fairly decent looking plate stove for $595. Par for the course I cloud'nt find anyone around to ask any questions, even if there was im sure they would'nt have any answers anyway. No litrature or anything on what it was. I noticed a emboss of a crown with the word king under neath it. Anyone know what this was or anything about it? Im looking for a small stove for my garage and was going to check out the Englanders when they arived at Home cant find anyone also Depot. Save your breath I allready know your not supposed to have a stove in the garage

Probably the King 2007 from U.S. Stove Company. TSC carries a lot of their stoves. It isn't an EPA certified clean burner.

No one at tractor supply really knows what they are talking about but they have a few really good bs artists at the new milford ct store where I bought my huskee 22 ton log splitter for $1111.94 tax included out the door.

The guy swore up & down that the log splitter was all set up & ready to go, because he did the work on it (assembly) himself so either he was a great lier or a horrable work man because the first time i ran it, I could hear the hydralic pump
wineing like it was low on hydralic fluid & sure enough ,it was right at the bottom mark of the dip stick & I had to put in a gallon of my own emergency hydralic fluid to get it up to the full mark.

No harm done , aside from me being out $10.oo for the extra fluid that was susposed to be provided free with the splitter but I'd like to think that Im smart enough not to fall for that load of ship. (T)

I'll remember that for next time!

Always supect the worst of people and you won't often be dissapointed.

US Stove is what they handle.

Our local TC usually has about 2-3 employees in the whole place. Many of the shelves are empty - when I ask about something that they are out of (empty shelf peg) they say they have no inventory in the back, and no system for reorder - simply stuff comes when it comes.

It's one thing to buy pellets there, but I would never suggest that anyone buy a stove there unless they knew 100% about the brand, backup (service, warranty) and also got an amazing deal. Birdfood is one thing, stoves quite another.

Hey eernest, where is that Tractor Supply in NM? I live in NF but am through NM once a week or so and have never been to one...

The maker certifies to the EPA that the stove has fixed air inlet that won't let it be cut back to less than a 35:1 air fuel ratio so they don't have to be certified. You control the burn with the fuel load, not an input air damper. Some control can be had by putting a pipe damper in-line in the stack.

It is a nice looking square barrel stove.

Hanko,

Was it the Ortonville store???? Because that store has bunch idiots running around, my god. I bought a 35 ton Husky log splitter there and after an hour the thing started spraying hot hydraulic fluid everywhere.

Ding Dongs that assembled it didn't tighten down a hose-clamp. Funny thing is after that happen I checked my email and one of the fine members here that I contacted about there machine, told me to tighten everything down before use..........

I never buy anything assembled by store personel. If I wanted a bored high school kid to assemble a machine for me I would hire one and keep an eye on him/her. Gimme mine in the crate please.

Would it be unreasonable for you to bring a can of gas with you and idle/cycle the machine a few times bringing it home? Personally, I never have anyone at a store assemble anything for me. I wont trust them with a bike, a Grill, or putting the handle bar on the lawn mower for me. I understand the $aving$ with having TSC fill it with fluid tho.

I purchased one from Lowes and after getting it home I split some wood and finally checked the fluid level. It was near the low mark but not below it.....so I decided to take matters into my own hand buy filling it to the top mark. Didn't need too much and I felt good about it.

the rest of the story......took it over to a friends house to split his wood. I started it up and it didn't even warm up when hydralic fluid started pouring out the overfill tube. I quickly shut it off in amazment, realizing the low and high mark was there for a reason. If it is filled to the high mark and the splitter is ran on a slight slope it will push it over the top and I decided that it would be better to leave it just above the low mark rather than try to level the splitter to run it. I did waste some good fluid and polute the enviornment. Lesson learned.

I don't mind the hired help in stores assembling my items. They probably do it as well as anyone and if they mess a few up you can usually correct it quickly. You gotta give them credit for the good ones too as we don't hear about them, only the problem ones. I am sure they sell to a lot more people than we hear bad from. :-)

Bought my MTD 25-t at Home Depot. Towed it home, read the book, checked the hyd fluid level (no prob), filled the tank, choked it, 2 pulls and it was off and running, unchoked and started splitting. Hasn't had as much as a hiccup since I brought it home. Very happy with it. Can't decide whether this thread belongs in the Ash Can or The Gear...or maybe a new forum where we bash all the retailers. Rick

I go to TSC for some farm supplies and tractor parts. They carry a lot of odd-ball stuff you can't find elsewhere. There are 2 I have gone to around here - 1 rural and 1 suburban. The suburban one really only carries horse stuff and lawn and garden type supplies. The more rural one usually has the stuff I need, but I stopped long ago asking anyone there for help or advice.

ROTF..........I think and hope they have a lot more customers than the few who post here. :-)

We all make mistakes at times no matter who we are. %-P

Im sure they do, but I havnt heard many thums up on this site. They have been here for ten years and Ive usually had a bad taste in my mouth leaving. There are a few nice people that work there allthough.

I guess I'm lucky being close to the Oneida and Rome TCS's they're usually stocked up with everything, of course both stores are somewhat new. Now that my cast is off I'll be there tomorrow to get some bulk gloves...and I check out the smaller stove jsut to see if it's an EPA.

btw wood stoves aren't recommended in garages but I've had good luck with a kerosun heater in the winter time. For about 5 years I had an indoor hitting range and with about 3-4 guys over we'd be in our T shirts hitting golf balls at 10* in an uninsulated garage...just say'en maybe a kerosun would be the better move for you.

its the individual store most likely , our TSC is excellent, i walked in a few weeks ago and the little girl at the register asked if she could help me , i showed her a PVC fitting , she said oh , for a sprayer , look all the way back on the back wall in the right corner shelf 3 about 4 fittings over (or somthing to that effect) , she flat nailed it. ive had several good "i need do ya have?" episodes, usually if they dont have it i dont even have to walk back and look. but the store across town is miserable, same as you guys described , no stock , no help etc...

a store like that is kinda a hybred , half mom and pop hardware store half wannabe mass merchant. i feel pretty good buying from ours though , have not bought a single thing from them that had an issue in all the years i shopped there , almost always have pellets too which is a plus for me.

The Howell store used to have some good people on hand but they've since moved on but I usually don't go there unless I know what I need. They are getting like Lowe's and H Depot...skeleton crew and most of those are checkout gals or retiree's that don't know the specifics.

Can anyone really afford anything at TSC anyway? I went there to buy some fire brick for my furnace...... They had them on the shelf for 5.00 a brick. I told the guy he was stupid, went 2 miles down the road and purchased the same brick for .90 cents a piece. What a Rip off. And I haven't been to any tsc or home depot where you can find help!!!!

TSC is just walmart for the person who wants to feel like a farmer. The one nice thing is the bolts by the pound. But I'd rather give my business to the local Blue Seal or agway store.

The TSC in Oneida NY is great. I never have a problem getting help there.

I know that I am in a different world out here but I'm with Rick and Stove Guy Mike. I think one possible reason my TSC is good is because the people they hire know and care a little bit and there is also some competition across town.

However, their helpfulness is not always that good of a thing. I have been preaching the message of these forums to anybody that would listen. “Get the EPA stove." "Need to go economic? Get the 30 NC." One of the guys showed up tonight with that very same TSC EPA stove BB seen. He had it in the truck and got it on the way coming in for night shift. It came down to price. TSC had it for $850.
