Good point about the ice. Chains or studs are the only thing that can help you on smooth ice.

He’s got a loader, so ice should not really be an issue. Even with my small tractor, I can pop it up like rice paper, with the front-end loader. Then the tires are on clean asphalt.

Sure, depending on much much gravel you’re willing to lose. ;-)

I really don’t remember what I paid for my chains, but I do remember that tirechain.com had pretty good pricing, compared to anything I found locally.

Are you looking at 2-link or 4-link? I went with 2-link on all corners, since I thought I might run them on asphalt, and 4-link makes a mighty rough and inconsistent ride. Regular weight on front and HD’s on the rear. The HD chains are HEAVY!

Yeah, I actually did check that website out. I don't have to deal with any paved surfaces so I'm going with reinforced diamond for the front and studded diamond for the rear. I'm beyond getting stuck again. I'm probably going with the HD V bar two link for my truck. I also don't want to buy more tire chains in the future, so I'm putting up for the expensive stuff now. I don't want to have to deal with this crap again when I'm old. The truck chains might not ever be used again after I get the driveway under control, but that might not happen until spring.

I looked into the beat juice but its just not available here, actually theres only one place in the whole county that does tire loading to, tractors are not a priority thing in NJ, I am going to my dealer for chain advice, one of the issues when buying chains is knowing if they will fit with the rear fender, so I'm going to look for his recommendation.

Filling your own tires is not that difficult. There are many youtube videos on the process. I do have to say that filled tires help a little on our JD 2020, but chains made a big difference. I also think putting a snow plow that you can angle on the front really helps.

The density of windshield wiper fluid is less then beat juice and calcium, since calcium was only available I bought it to the shop since the tire had to be removed and a inner tube installed (calcium will rot a rim from within)
But I agree, filling your own is easy if you don't have to remove the tires, also my tires are quite large compared to the 2020

For 9 years I plowed our drive without chains. I would plow down hill make a u turn and plow down hill again. Last year I could not make it up hill again, so I left the tractor and went to buy chains. The only chains I could find were for a log skidder. The chain they are made from is about 3/8 inches in diameter. Every two cross links are tied together with two oval shaped rings. I put them on 13.25X28 tires and had to cut two sections out of each chain to make them small enough.

I paid $400 at a tire shop in a small logging town. They have made one heck of a difference. I do not think I could spin them if I tried. 1952 8N Ford.

I have no doubt they will out last me. $800 seems high to me.

Around here the ice and frost can get a foot or so into the gravel road bed. The top is slick, but trying to pop it up does not work well. At least for me. Raking it with the bucket teeth sometimes gets a little loose gravel for traction.

Good to know. Hopefully next winter the ice won't be so crippling since we will start off with the right equipment

Got about 4 1/2”, not powder, but not heavy wet either, machine did great cleaning up, really enjoying the heavier tires, no real need for chains

I’ve never been able to put my finger on the name of that Woods color, it’s somewhere between infant diarrhea and Gerber baby food.

That's awesome. I thought about beet juice tires, but I really need the studs. I'll post some pics of my driveway in a bit.

I have two implements from Woods, but I chose to repaint the one that came in that horrible mustard color in Deere green:

The other is more of a regular construction orange, so I left it alone. Now I’m wondering if it’s Kubota orange.

I need lights for my ROPS... I just now considered that I can't really run the snowblower when it's dark...

Cheap quick project with some tractor lights from Amazon or eBay. Your tractor probably already has a connector on the harness for them, integrated into your existing lighting controls, even my 33 year old machine had that from the factory. I just bought the mating connector, ran some AWG14/2 cable up thru the tops, and added the lights. Took about an hour.

Mine were done for the same reason, blowing snow at night. That’s why I wanted them high.

A prior owner had already drilled it, but his lights were a hack job. I was able to reuse his drill holes to mount the new lights, I just drilled one more for the wiring, and wired to the proper harness connector instead if his hardware store toggle switch to the battery.

I bought that tractor used, it was already over 25 years old when I got it.

I picked up 4 LED's from tractor supply, they do come with there wiring kits and sealed switches, I'm at a loss with mounting the forward lights (since the ropes stays down most of the time, but I'll mount up the rear lights today (I have the perfect spot)

Do you really need more forward lights? Didn’t the tractor come with decent forward lighting?

Get the schematics for your machine, verify there’s not already wiring to the base of the ROPS for rear lights, I’d be a little surprised if there isn’t. Then you can skip the hokey Tractor Supply switch, etc.
