We recently moved into a new place that has a gas fireplace with a standard framed chimney. I'd really like to get rid of the gas insert and replace with a wood burning stove/insert. I think I remember seeing that this is possible, but that it would take replacing the existing line with a new stainless liner due to the difference in temperature. What else would have to be done? Thanks for the help!

It sounds like this would require a full chimney replacement and a new fireplace installation.

Or a stove with proper clearances and class A, possibly a chase?
