Saw this in DC today. Looks like it would be tough to split. Good hard wood?

Looks like it might be hollow wood and not worth the effort.
 
My kids thought I was such a dork when I told them I was taking the picture to post on Hearth.com.
 
I’ll bet it burns hot.
