Trying to find a fireplace

I have an old Preway fireplace in my basement. I would like to replace it with something a little more efficient, but will not rely on it for a source of heat. I want the atmosphere of a fireplace more. We burn most weekend nights from fall, winter and spring, so it would be nice to get some heat out of it. I am looking at the Security Chimney HE-43 since it can be operated with the glass doors shut like a stove or you can slide the glass doors beside the unit (like an armoire) and pull out screens and have a more traditional open fireplace. It's advertised as 50% efficient. It can also use double walled chimney or insulated chimney. Does anyone have any experience with this unit? Do you know of any other units that might fit for my situation.

Never heard of that unit. But you could also check out EPA units like the Heat & Glo Northstar

You can operate it with the door open and a firescreen in place. Best efficiency is with the door closed.

You should consider the LaVal by Security. Similar features to the HE43 but is Louverless for a more traditional masonry look.
