UNUSED Majestic ESF-IIB; How efficient??

We purchased a home built in 1981 with a Majestic ESF-IIB that has never had a wood fire in it. Instead, they installed a gas log set. The inside of the firebox is pristine! We had it inspected and it was given a clean bill of health. We were planning on removing the gas logs and using it to burn wood fires. We are wondering how efficient this fireplace will be as we would really like to have a heating source that is not reliant on electricity. Anyone here familiar with this unit and how good it will be for this purpose?

I would keep using gas. It would be the most efficient and does not require electricity (except for any blowers).
