Hello again;
Has anyone done any cross referencing for US Stove motors, blowers, draft and auger. Motor only and units. It seems like the failure rate is way up there. Or are we stuck with US stove company?
Not real knowledgeable but remember engineers saying that dayton makes good motors. And has anyone found the Achilles heal of their motors. Is it heat, is it bearings, is it the impellers. Not just curious, but if I'm going to keep this collection of scrap metal I'm going to have to find less expensive or better replacements. Yep, looks like Englander has done a decent job of this and wonder if we, as US Stove owners, if we are as much on our own as we truly seem to be, than we need to find a parts supplier/s to keep these stove alive to fight another winter.
Thanks ahead for your valuable time

The blowers and drive motors are the same as used in Napoleon, Quadrafire, Danson and some Englander and Breckwell units, and can also be bought through Grainger. The pressure switch is the same as Quad, Napoleaon, Englander and Breckwell. Let me know which US Stove you have and I'll tell you the coresponding part number from the other companies.

Hello;
Us stove tech eh?
I have a 5502m and if my feed issue gets solved my next problem will be to deal in advance with the inevitable and seemingly projected failures of the motors.
I am looking into bearings, cleaning, lubrication as well as seasonal maintenance of these parts to see if I can Forstall the inevitable a bit in order to make this stove economically feasible. I have, for the past 38 years relied on oil supplemented by wood off my own land. I've cut almost all I want to, hence pellets. I need to find a way to feel more comfortable with my pellet stove purchase which has been steadily declining over the winter. A plan is get ahead of the curve rather than be caught by surprise. Any help you can send my way will be gratefully received.
Thanks for the response

John

Cleaning and lube of the motors and fans is always a good thing. I usually do mine twice a year although I know you being in ME might need a little more. You referred to Englander as doing well with fan motors, guessing at what parts your stove may take.....combustion blower part#80473 and distribution motor blower part# 80472. they are universal with Englander part PU-076002S and PU-4C477 respective. You are right on in saying that heat and soot are the killers of these motors. If you want to start a new thread on the feed issue I would be more then happy to work with you on it.

Hi Owen;
I was interested in motor only to cut the cost of replacement down to a more manageable level. I'll go check now and see if englander offers a motor only option as us stove does not. Also I read somewhere that the us stove upgrade combustion blower has a heat dissipator now attached. I found this out after my last thorough cleaning so I didn't look. Do you happen to know if the upgrade to the 5500m which is my stove 5502m has this upgrade. Its ok if you don't know off hand as I will soon find out with my spring clean.
As far as the feed problem is concerned I have been in contact with us stove since Oct. 2013 about it and in hopes of solving it soon. If not I will give you a try before giving up.

Thanks again
John

I have a 4 month old 5502 as well,... and although its been working flawlessly, >knocking on wood<,... I will be following this this thread.

Good morning Owen;
How close are the 5500m and the 5502m? Different father/same mother or same mother and father with an extra trip or two to the dentist?
Thanks again in advance.
John

Helllloooo Shaw 520;
What an asset you can be to all of us. You and your stove could be a benchmark by which we measure our stoves. I know I'll have more than a few questions for you soon.

Thanks for popping your head up.

I'll toss two 5502M's, a 5560 and an old EF2 into the info databank too. This was our first year using pellets for primary heat, replacing an ancient, horribly inefficient gas "black hole" heating two not terribly well insulated apartments and a third, well insulated apartment...

The three US Stoves were all new October '13.

Hi John
you may want to cross reference the Fasco motor (they make our blower motors) and see if Grainer carries it, or find a Fasco dealer near you for a Motor Only option. I've gone as far as engineering as to any changes in the current combustion blower and they say no changes are in the pipeline as of now. You have been working on your feed problem since Oct? I just saw what has been going on with your incoming calls. Are you still using a soft/hard wood mix. I think we can have better results and am really suprised I haven't received any of your calls yet. 5500 v. 5502 they are brothers for sure. The main differences are :
Hopper Size 5502 120# 5500m 150#
Depth 5502 26" 5500m 25"
Weight 5502 210 5500m 250

As always anyone can please feel free to message me if you have a question that may not merit a thread.

Hi Owen;
Iv'e experimented with the original 80/20 mix fireside ultra, the 90/10 mix which is maines choice, lignetics 100% hardwood and a couple more 100% hard woods. Like the lignetics best so far. I can adjust for these differences but still end up with too much of a compromise in burn quality because of the feed problem. I spoke to Tabitha last, she said she was going to send out a new control board to rectify the problem as it seems it is a miss timing situation. I sent her the requested proof of purchase and ser# monday last and am awaiting word from her. I have waited word from a few phone jockeys there that never arrived so we'll see if she really sends one. Thanks for looking into this on my behalf, I really appreciate it. It has been a long winter. After having to marry this stove, time wise, I'm looking for a marriage counselor or a divorce lawyer. Truth be known although divorce is messier I'm slightly leaning in that direction.

Thanks again
John

Mediation.....let's have you and your new "spouse" get to know each other better. Got Your PM we'll work it out there, and post results as they come avail.

Hey hoverwheel; The more the merrier. Mine is an Oct. baby also, although purchased in Sept. I didn't take my rain check delivery until Oct. How are they running for you? What pellets have you treid out so far and which ones do best for you? What neck of the usa woods if I might ask and how's your winter been.

John

The two 5502's are running fine with a scattering of no-heat issues all ultimately resolved by cleaning. The 5560 has a stuffy head or something and is on the bench until spring. The older EF2 is filling in until then.

None of them seem picky about pellets. One of the 5502's did not seem to like Black Hills, the other runs fine on it. The old EF2 burns anything including pellet bag dust LOL Green Supreme, Logik-e, Black Hills, Stove Chow - basically whatever I have been able to find in stock.

Winter here in New England has been cold. I don't mind winter all that much, usually, but weeks long cold snaps where there temp never gets out of the singles and teen digits... I'm ready for spring...

Yup; weathermen say Maine's winter is the coldest in 40 odd years. I remember those years. I also remember the snow years in the mid to late sixties when the cars had to don radio antenna extensions tilted forward so one could be seen before entering an intersection because the snow banks were so high. I haven't seen one of those since then. I'm ready for spring and have been for 5 months now LOL. Yet I haven't moved out. Creature of habit or number than a burnt boot. 6 to 1 half a dozen the other I guess.
The only pellets I've heard of let alone try is the GS. I'm not overly impressed with them but they will do in a pinch, which is what we're in at the moment.
Got more questions but I'm on the tail end of double 16 hour shifts and still at work.

Until later
John

Does anyone have the fasco or other manufacturer part number/s to replace the combustion fan motor? Is this a straight forward replacement, do parts have to be pressed on/off, is there a set screw, keyway or other type of fastener used to hold the assembly together? I'm trying to help a friend out and keep cost low. this is the most relevant thread i have found regarding such a request, if there is a better place please let me know.

Which USSC stove are you looking at? Model number will help because they make a lot of different stoves/furnaces.

Here's a link for a good source of parts: http://www.eastcoasthearth.com/

yes that would have been good info... 5500M thanks for the reply

That link will help you find what you need. My stove is a different model so it probably isn't the same.
