Buying a rear flue exit earth stove and since it hasn't been used much, also thinking of using the old insulated flue pipe in a new installation. Good idea?

If it is the right size installed correctly and in good condition sure.

It is the flue installed with the stove in 1998 but used only 1/2 a doz times.
Ok thats great. Make sure it meets those 3 requirements and you should be fine.

Clean the flue before connecting and burning so that you know it's ready to go for the season.

One caveat being if you can find any additional components that you may need for the new install. See if the pipe is still being manufactured before starting the job.
