I am new to these forums and would appreciate any help you all can provide. Looking at putting in a gas fireplace insert or a wood burning insert. Have been speaking with a local fireplace shop and they are recommending the Valor Legend G3 gas insert. They like the Legend because they claim it does not really need a fan to push the heat out and is fairly efficient. Questions I have are:
1) Are gas inserts more efficient than wood burning inserts?
2) The Legend shows an efficiency rating of around 69%. Is this comparable to other gas inserts?
3) Does anyone have experience with the Valor Legend G3? Is it a reliable brand and model?
4) What other brands and models would people recommend?
5) As I have not made any decisions yet, I am still considering a wood burning insert. Are there any advantages of going with wood versus gas? Any advantages of gas versus wood? How efficient are wood burning inserts?
6) Any ideas for good wood inserts? (Brand and Model)
7) Primary purpose of the insert is to provide heat with asthetics secondary.
8) House size is about 1,700 sq ft. and fireplace looks to be about 36" wide.
