So I can’t find any installation instructions for a damper replacement in my Encore 1450. Mountain View says they do not include instructions.

I bought an entire damper replacement so all I should have to do is plug and play but how to properly remove the old damper I don’t know.

Anyone help me here with directions or how to find instructions?

No specifics from me on your VC stove, but from my minimal experience rebuilding one wood stove (Jotul): The part you are replacing might not be the only thing you need to replace. Other parts may be subtly warped and cause trouble in removing the part you want. That warping would also interfere with installing the new part, if you could get the old part out. No idea if this applies to your situation!

Possibly link a diagram of your stove and how the damper is attached.
My Encore's damper has round pivots cast into it. The damper is retained by small pieces of steel that are attached by a bolt on either side. The lever on the side of the stove actuates a rod that pushes the damper and has a metal strap it's retained by on the back of the damper. The easy way on my stove is to remove the pipe adapter and it gives total access to all of the mechanism. I have removed mine from the front but my metal tab on the right side was bent from years of use and I was able to slide the damper far enough to the right to get the left pivot to clear. Getting the actuator rod in the back hooked up was a trick, one time I had to take the interior cover on the left side off to do it.

Here's the parts diagram for the Encore 1450. It's a non-cat stove. Looks like the damper bolts or is attached to a separate damper rod. The damper rod must be true and not warped or it too should be replaced. Does place where the damper seats have two retaining clips or guides for the pivot rod ends?

So what you’re saying is, you don’t have any input on the details I asked for?

So no instructions/manual I was asking for then?

A parts diagram doesn’t tell me how to properly replace the damper

You're welcome. No service manual here for that stove, there are so many VC models. Maybe someone will chime in.

Typically this requires removing the griddle and top for access. Then the damper handle. From that point they vary. I don't know how the damper sits in the damper housing without looking at it.

#12 in the pic is the steel tabs held by a bolt and they hold the damper in place. Pic is a little odd with #13 looking like it's retained by those tabs. Mine has the ends of the cast damper going under the tabs and the damper in the pic looks like mine. Remove #1 and it's all right there.
