We are having our house sided with cement board.

We are considering putting a pellet stove in the kitchen corner but haven't decided yet. Cutting into cement board is difficult. Siding crew recommends putting a PVC block where we might put venting through the wall so we have an easier way to install later. We need to know what size the block should be. Should we also put a second block for our OAK?

Installer that came over suggested putting venting part way up inside with an adjustable pipe so we have options for stove choice and we plan to refinish or change our floor.

Thanks

Every manufacturer makes different sized wall pass-thrus (thimbles) & associated finish trim. You will have to determine what venting you're going to use before you can make that call. Harman makes a wall pass-thru with the outside air attachment built in, but your stove would probably have to be a Harman to get the OAK tube to match up. Better if you do some research & decide which stove you're going to install before you can locate the venting.

If we put blocks up we don't have to use them but trying to put a pass thru in later will be challenging and more expensive.

We have considered many options and haven't come up with our final decision. We've been looking on CL and like the traditional look of Enviro Empress, St. Croix Hastings, and the Harman XXV (which is a tad big). Empress size wise would fit under windows best.

Part of our frustration with the pellet stove shopping is we get conflicting information from various shops we have been to.

you don't need to choose a stove per se, but a venting manufacturer so you will know the size of thimble.

If the block is to big, venting can be centered.

Would a 6 or 8 inch square be a safe choice?

Appreciate the suggestions.

I spoke to 2 installers today and one gave mt the size for Harman thimble and also talked to another dealer selling various brands who said no problem going thru cement board siding not to worry they can do it at install.
