Wondering what volume the Bethel plant is currently producing?

I'm surprised they aren't moving to Mexico like caterpillar is doing.

Pennsylvania Castings. What a concept.

Stick a fork in VC. They are done.

The Bethel plant wasn't too huge anyway. Last time I was there they had one assembly line building about 8 Dutchwest stoves. The rest of the facility was making gas grills and cast iron cooking pans for another vendor. I did think there were some good people working there though and I hope they move on to better things.

The Vermont Castings foundry in Randolph will remain.

There are down to 80 people working there now. 40 will get laid off. Not a small impact in a town of less than 2000.

Lots of foundry business in PA. In fact, it was the primary industry for generations, in many western PA towns, thanks to local ore, coal, and our railroads. I've also toured a few old foundries right in Philadelphia.

VC's foundry in Randolph is electric.

I'm wondering who they expect to show up at their big 40th anniversary party. I think there will be a lot of ticked off VC owners there........

I am sure they have to leave part of the business in Vermont to keep the name.
No pennsylvania house was bought by lazy boy and moved to china and they kept the name. The former employees put on a media campaign though and got them enough bad press that they dropped the name due to poor sales

Not sure if that will work in Vermont. The state has pretty tough requirements for products carrying the "Vermont" name. At least some part of the final product needs to be manufactured in the state. I don't think that having just an office address in VT will be enough but I am sure there are plenty of lawyers that may interpret those regulations differently. ;hm

They are apparently not moving the foundry so that would do it.

Yup, and that may be one of the reasons for keeping it.
