Keep getting the soot build up in that one spot in the lower left corner only, it usually goes away toward the end of the cycle. But stove top temps are usually around 650-750. Could that be an air leak at the door seal?

Looks to me like the buildup is coming from the gases coming out of the ends of those angled pieces of wood on the bottom and hitting the cooler door glass. Switch sides with the angle and see if the buildup moves to the other side. Better yet. Cut some of the wood the right size for the firebox and try it.

I have to agree with BB. It really does make a difference how you stack the wood.

actually the pieces are not angled. I have it loaded n/s at the bottom and e/w at the top. This build up happens even when i do a full e/w load. The stove is only about 2 months old. Not really concerned with that build up too much, because it is always isolated to that one corner and always goes away toward the end of the burn cycle plus if i just crack the draft open a little bit i don't get that build up.

there is about 3" of space between the glass and the wood.

Probably just a weak spot in the airwash. If I have a split with a knot in the middle where a branch stub was it will soot the glass wherever its pointing. I have a constant dirty corner in the lower right of my glass and I just replaced the gasket and it seals tight everywhere. I just consider it a weaker spot in the airwash.

fire pretty. ooohhh

i wish i had a better camera, i took that video with my phone. Just like the title says there is a vertical tunnel like tornado of fire that always gathers near the top of the glass it looks magical sometimes. lol..

I'm 99% sure you simply have a level 14 fire elemental living in your stove. Nothing to be alarmed of if your stove glass has been enchanted with a frost spell by a higher level ice specc'd wizard.

That's the same spot I get haze on my glass. It's the place least covered by the airwash, and it does clear up by the end of the burn.

I get occasional spots on my glass and my door gasket is brand new and I think quite tightly sealed. The spots change based on the way I stack the wood in the stove. The best way to get a spot is to have the end of a N/S loaded piece of wood too close to the glass, especially away from the center of the door. The airwash seems strongest at the center and weaker at the edges.

Mighty vigorous fire. I'm curious. Is that with the air control all the way closed?

My door started to feel a little loose when I latched it so I fluffed up the gasket. Like new. Same gasket for about 6 years.

When I fluff my gasket ,it only lasts for about 2-3 re-loads. Boo-hoo-hoo

Thats what I thought also. Fire is moving fast.

Yes it is. suprisingly i only have 15' of 6" SS liner chimney, not insulated but my chimney is in the center of my home so it always stays fairly warm. not to mention the stove hardly ever goes cold.

Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

that fire you see moving so fast is almost exclusively from the secondaries.

If the primary air control all the way closed then this is a very easy breathing stove. Good to know.

Cross posted, I modified my response. Keep us posted, you are the one of the first here with this insert. It's good to know that it is off to a great start for you. How deep is the firebox? Can you load exclusively N/S if you want to?
