So I am running my stove this morning, all seems to be fine. Went to re-load and after the closed the door and the damper I am hearing sounds like something falling down the stove pipe every 30 seconds or so. Like its landing at the bottom. Any ideas what it could be? Creosote falling? I am in CT and currently lots of snow and wind

Last cleaning was in sept or October before burning season..I am in need of a new cat (actually should be coming today) so my cat temps haven't been as high as they should be I know that

The winds are really high today. It's probaby just Crusty bits from the cap falling down the pipe. I heard the same last storm. I cleaned my cap off and haven't heard anything since. The pipe was clean but the cap was really crusted up.

x2 on cap crud -if you are confident in your burning practices keep her rolling till the next warm up and give a clean out or at least a peak in there. It happens - most often during weather changes. Even the best wood will put a little gunk on the cold cap.

Yea I've let the fire I had going die out because I was getting nervous, and the sound has stopped. Guessing maybe anything that would have fell cooled and hardened? Or the wind knocked everything down lol. Still very windy though. I do remember when we had the chimney cleaned back in Sept or Oct the guy said there was some build up on the cap/top but the pipe seemed ok. Just got nervous as its my 2nd winter burning and hadn't heard that noise before

Cap came off and a bird got in there?
