Well sooner or later I knew it would happen. The glass broke on the Liberty. My daughter loaded the stove today around 11:30am and she said a log rolled back and hit the glass rel light and it cracked and poped out of the frame. She was not hurt with the glass or anything. But when you get a call like that at work your heart drops. I called the dealer $170.00 plus tax and about 1 week to get it. so at lunch time I look up replacement glass and I have one being shipped for 125.00 to my door by Tuesday.

Bad luck but good score. Glad nobody got hurt.

Bob

eek!! Was there any fire/hot coals in there that she was loading that had to get extinguished to? That could've been sketchy!

She just had loaded it

(broken image removed)

I ordered it from Woodstove-fireplace glass in Quincy Il

$170 for regular glass? That's what I paid for the etched glass plus tax and shipping. That looks like some huge gasket. Be prepared to use new glass gasket. My stove was only 4 years old when I switched out my glass and it was pretty crumbly

Wow, I thought stove "pyroceram glass" was stronger than that.

$125 with new glass gasket too. The stove is about 9 years old.
Sledhead, my oldest daughter is a trooper for the wood stove. She has been loading the stove since we had it. I swear she she can load it better then me. And yes, she removed the splits with her welders gloves and tossed them out the window into the snow. Then called me in tears, she was upset that it cracked and was scared about leaving it with an open glass

Good head on her for getting the wood out of the firebox.

Live and learn.

You have welder's gloves for your little girl? You're an awesome dad. Well done.

Think she pressed a log with the glass while closing the door on the load? That seems to be the sure fire way to break the glass. Maybe pick the right time to mention that. I'm sure she feels bad already.

Agree with others....that young lady was calm enough to put on welders gloves, reach into a burning firebox, and pick up and toss burning splits outside into the snow. That is simply outstanding parenting!

x2, the log just didn't roll into the glass and break it like that. Most likely the door was closed on a split.

Regardless of how it happened sounds like she handled it well, make sure you tell her how proud you are of the way she handled the situation.

My daughter Sara, is 22 and has been loading loading the stove for at least 10 years. She was home from college when this happened yesterday. She says the stove was loaded up and burning when the log moved/rolled and broke. I asked her for sure you didn't close the door against a log? She said no, is was going strong when she heard the pop when the glass cracked. I do believe her. With her being upset about this, then later in the evening we had to put are dog down of 13 years. So you want to talk about being upset.

Maybe the split had a nail or other foreign object protruding from it. My glass is 20x12 and splits have fallen against it numerous times

Fespo: Your daughter is an impressive young lady - she kept her cool and thought things through while under pressure.
I had a similar scary incident with my old VC Resolute. The Stove was at it's peak heat output and one of the glass windows popped out of it's retaining clips and fell into the stove. The fire was raging out of control. I ended up layering sheets of aluminum foil over the opening until the burn cycle finished.

So sorry to hear about your dog. I also know how that feels, we put down our 12 year old husky mix a few years ago and I still get upset.

Your daughter handled it better than I probably would have.....I commend her on her keeping calm and taking the correct actions. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your pup:(

they sell and cut stove glass at many glass shops, get it now and no risk of broken glass showing up in the mail...

be prepared w/ new 7/8" door gasket and cement and 3/4" channel type glass gasket

there sending out a new glass gasket with the glass. the tracking shows it should be in tomorrow

Fespo is your door designed so you have to remove the door gasket to remove the glass?

Sorry about the family friend.:(

Fespo,I know how you feel about your glass getting broke. My wife broke the glass in the Kuma this afternoon.Luckily their is a glass shop in town that has the glass. Will take the door to them tomorrow and get a new one.
