Went to pay for my Jotul Rangeley and....

Well I went in to pay for the Rangeley and got to playing with the Oslo. After 45 mins of walking between stoves and opening the doors, comparing the looks, and really evaluating the top load feature on the Rangeley, I am now the proud owner of a black Oslo! I really liked the way the doors on the Oslo felt when I locked them. But I think the biggest deciding factor was the difference in the looks. The Rangeley had a much more boxy appearance than the Oslo. They both are rated to heat approx same sq footage and both really appear to be good stoves. So I hope that my decision is a good one and I will post some pics when we get it hooked up

Welcome to the fold Wallace . . . the Oslo is a very nice woodstove . . . every once in a while I find my eye wandering to other sexier soapstone stoves or stoves with pretty finishes, but in the three plus years I've had it the simple understated beauty and practicality of my plain Jane matte black Oslo still keeps me happy . . . and warm.

never did like the look of that Rangeley much... no offense. I'm still trying to figure out how i'm gonna get by without that top loading feature. I'm coming from an old VC and side loading is just plain wierd to me. I guess I'll get used to it. From what most say here, you can't go wrong with the Oslo.

Rangeley or Oslo - both great stoves.

I like the looks of the Oslo, but most important is you got a dead solid reliable clean burning stove.

I prefer the looks of the Oslo over the Rangely too.. What matters is that you like like it better.. I found the Rangely to be a more contemporary looking stove and they are both nice..

Wallace that should work out well in your area. You do get some cold but at least it is for a short time compared to the north.

Last winter during Dec. and Jan. it was actually below 0 for a few weeks. People were popping pipes right and left. My heaters ran pretty much non stop. So I should be able to put a huge dent in the propane heater use!!

During that coldest weather be sure to cycle the heaters once in a while. Use them as a supplement with the stove to keep pipes from freezing in areas where the stove heat may not reach.

What will be the flue/chimney setup for the stove?

That's the good thing about our boiler,the cellar is about 80 all winter.Can't insulate pipes though because they have frozen up against the outside wall i was told.They need the heat from the cellar.
