[Hearth.com] What have I been splitting?

I got several truckloads of rounds a few weeks back, most of it with no bark left. Some of these were included in the load. I think it's poplar, but I've been wrong before!

Poplar for sure. The first pic from the base of the tree, second pic from further up. They grow like that around here, too.

Paper birch is whiter/brighter, with more flaky bark and horizontal "checking". Easy mistake to make in a photo, but the difference is more clear when handling. Poplar will have a waxy feel, while birch feels like paper.
