What is this? Please help me identify.

Long story short. I had a leak under my house. I lost enough water to run my pump dry. I found this on the flange coming out of the pump. The flange on the incoming side of the pump is fine. Can someone help me identify what caused this. The part of the flange that is shiny, is pitted and deteriorated.

What size circulator? What size and length of line was it moving water through? Any antifreeze of any kind? Closed or open system?

That looks like cavitation, but it is on the discharge side of the circ Hmmmmm.........

No idea - that's really weird looking to me.

Any history of gold mines in the area?
