plan is to sand blast the steel
then degrease everything......
but
what are you guys using for paint ?
using a primer ?
any stand out products ?
any to stay away from ?

Stove Bright 1200 deg. paints are often used for this purpose. Follow their directions, especially regarding prep and ventilation. This is serious brain-rotting stuff. Treat it with respect. Be sure to paint in a very well ventilated space and use an organic vapor mask with a fresh cartridge.

saw the 1200 degrees
was wondering about the brand
but i will read the directions

It's a good paint, acetone based IIRC. If the paint job gets over 1200 degrees, it will be one of your lesser worries. ;-)
 
The only mistake folks make with this paint is not mixing it enough--the silicones make a very sludgey mass in the bottom that takes much more effort to mix than regular paint.
