Need to block off my stove... chinmey pipe and I guess OAK? What's the best way to do this? If I don't block it off I get cresote stink in the house all summer.
Last summer I used a bunch of pink panther but it didn't work all that great and I think I threw it out.

I use rags and bags for the pellet stove. But for the wood stove, I am gonna put some thick plastic (insert your mil thickness here) under the cap. Remove cap, or top 3' section. Put a layer or 2 of plastic down and place cap or 3' section on. Trim excess plastic so you cant see it and put a note in firebox. Along with a moisture absorber of your choice. OAK do the same.

I can't get to the top of the chimney, it's about 10-12 feet high from the roof, on a barely walkable roof.

Open the damper. And put a sock in it. ;lol

Can you take a section apart inside? And do the same thing. Plastic will make a solid barrier. A piece of fiberglass insulation will not completely stop the air down the chimney.

Or get one of those "balloons" that you stick up the flue. But thats to much money for me.

In an eight inch pipe a ten cent balloon from the dollar store will get it done. And pop if you forget to take it out when you light up next season.

If the chimney is swept at the end of the season, I'm betting the smell is coming from creosote inside the firebox.

In addition to blocking things up, maybe it would help to open the house doors and windows and burn a good hot fire, as it starts dying down open that thermostat up to keep the air right to it. I'm not talking a full load, but a load large enough to get the stove up to a high burn rate and keep it there as long as you can. That may help clean out the stove a bit from them long BK slow burns.

Chimney is clean and stove is 100% empty, like even took out the firebrick and cleaned it.
