What's this wood?

This was in the stash of mostly poplar I cut today...the bark and wide spaced growth rings have me leaning towards onward some sort of conifer, but I'm confused by the color of the wood...what say you?

Sass is rated around 18 in the BTU charts, about like soft Maple. It pops a bit in the stove. I figure it will stir up ash and plug my cat faster so I don't burn much of it. It is fairly rot-resistant so I used it under a few pallets to keep 'em off the ground. I'll see how long it ends up lasting...

Is this also sassafras?? The inside doesn't look as dark as what Rangerbait posted but it's pretty similar...
