where to buy new glass - Oslo

AAGGHH! somehow the door on my Oslo was off a hinge, when I went to open the stove to start a fire it fell on the hearth and glass cracked, vertical crack all the way down the center.

Anyone know best site for me to order from? any guesses on cost?

Probably not recommended but I'll ask anyway - anyone ever run a stove with cracked glass?

I will try to answer your questions:

1- when my glass cracked, I brought the two pieces to a local glass shop and had them cut a new one. Be certain to let them know you are getting the glass for a wood stove...most likely, they have cut this before.

2- when same said glass cracked, I continued to use the glass and sealed the crack by lacing a very liberal amount of stove cement to the crack (I do not mean placing cement on both sides and sticking them together, I smeared a wole bunch down the glass along the crack). Yes, probably not recommended, but needed to get by a couple of days until I could get to the glass shop.

I am certain there will be plenty of people who will advise against this, but it got me by.

Sources for glass are 1) your Jotul dealer, 2) the local glass or auto-glass shops. You want Robax or NeoCeram ceramic glass for replacement, 3) www.onedayglass.com for fast online service if 1 or 2 are not available or out of stock.

I didn't think about a local glass cutter - do you think they can pull up specs online or do you think I should simply take the door/glass to them..

The only spec they need is ceramic glass and the thickness. I think the Oslo uses 5mm thick glass, but am not positive. Bring in the whole door to the glass shop if necessary so they can match.

begreen I just checked out onedayglass - good site and good price but I'm worried about their interpretation of the arch....maybe I'll look for jotul specs and send directly to them though. Thanks for the ideas
