Which Englander Stove? 25 IP or 25 PAH

I have had my 25PDVC for a long time. still works great. I love the brand and the service but starting not to love the model I own. I did fix some of its shortcomings with extending the hopper etc over the years. Now i want something with a little more oomph to handle the severe cold.
There are 2 models I like. the 25 IP and the 25 PAH.


My main gripe with the pdvc is that the pellets come out of the bottom on to the burn plate and the ash is supposed to get pushed off by the incoming pellets. this works great on lower settings but if i want to run on 6+ It chokes itself up. It's been like that since day 1 even when i clean it perfectly. Also no ash drawer is a pita.

Anyone own any of these models and if so what you do like? not like? are these two models prone to the issues that i have?

no, which one is that? i didnt notice a new model on their website. i see one thing in a search for englander smart stove and it is for their madison wood stove. Sounds great but i need to stick with pellets. I'm not around enough to deal with wood.

i have a 25 ip and it heats quite well (except those -10 degree days) i will say that i bought from amfm energy and the transaction went very smooth. the stove however needed some things..... some rminor surface rust, no faux brick or door tool was there9but they did ship them asap), they failed to tighten one of the the allen bolts (should be bigger imho)that holds the auger/-motor in, did not properly caulk the pellet chute which caused lazy burns in 1 and 2.

all that being said i can and have pretty much fixed everything and anything on the stove and it is pretty easy with the super easy access panels . it kicks some heat to boot. notably the back panel is not easy to remove and requires removal of the exhaust to completely remove. another thing for improvement is the heat exchanger could use a way to clean it built in and has clogged on me.

overall i love it but really it needed to be looked over prior to being shipped or you could just go over these thing yourself.....jm2cw..... probably the best bang/buck ratio but more for do it yourselfers, than set it and forget it types.

On the England's smart stove. Also known. as 55-SHSSPOI. AMFM ENERGY has them for sale ,they sell new and refurbished pellet and wood stoves ,from England stove works . I like this stove be cause of the ease of operation. I have two other pellet stoves from Englander .Bought in 2008 ,still running great ,only had to change ignitors on them last year . So this past fall ,we had our cellar finished . And was lookin for a stove to heat that area . Saw this stove at Lowe's . Liked the looks and features ,So I bought it . It dose all the they claim lots of heat and simple to operate very little ash. So for me the ash pan was not important . It is a super stove ,Take a look at it at the AMFM ENERGY site or at England's stove works site. Since 2008 have been using Maine woods pellets mixed hardwood softwood pellets to heat our home. I do use about 100 gals of oil per year for hot water, and backup .

the smart stove looks interesting. 2200 sq feet, 120 lb hopper and the exhaust is 8 1/2 inches off the floor, so it would match up exactly with my current vent. i'd have it up and running in minutes. will have to add this to the list...

Only thing is my first 2 model choices have a 250 cfm blower yet the smart stove has a 150. does that mean at 250 you are just getting more air but less warm, but the 150 puts out less air but hotter?

I have a 25-PDVC and a 25-PAH. The PAH heats well but is a tich finnicky until you get to know it. I shut my stove down about once a week and empty the burn pot about every other day. It will build clinkers but I have a rigged spoon to get them out and into the ash box so I don't have to shut down every other day. The air wash is not very efficient so it is important to clean the stove well. Every time I clean it I pull the two exhaust hatches behind the ash drawer to clean them. It is also critical that you bang the back side of the fire box to knock down the ash in the exhaust when you do this. I use a rubber mallet and it works well. I learned this trick on the forum and it was a true life saver. I hated the stove until then. The leaf blower trick will not get this stubborn ash out. I also have an attachment to suck fines from the top auger inside the hopper. They will build up if you get dusty pellets. I think it burns softer pellets better. If you get a longer pellet the auger will squeak intermittently. Like a whining dog. The blower motor screen takes 30 seconds to clean so that is nice. I have 10 tons or so through mine and would rate the stove a 9/10.

My PDVC is definately less finnicky on pellets but it's not even close on the heat output. However I am super limited on my pellets. This year I am burning big heats and they are ok. Last year it was Indeck and they were ashy. Had good luck with Marth softwood but didn't want to pay robbery prices on them.

Thanks Panolo! this is good to know. I feed my pdvc 25 the cheapest pellets i can find and it never hiccups. I've also tried high end pellets just to try them but get the same results in this particular stove, so i just stick with the bbs pellets. The pah sounds like a pita to clean out.

how does the imperial stack up vs this description of the pah? easier to clean out? less picky about pellets?

Are the models with burn pot stirrers easier to keep going because they keep the ash out of the pot? their multifuel model has one and honestly that was on the top of my list until they came out with the new ones that have bigger hoppers. If i go with the multifuel (model escapes me right now) i'd have to extend the hopper.
