Who said you can't get a bigger insert into your fireplace?

I just got a quote for around $300 to extend out (shown in red lines). Has anyone else every done this so you could get a bigger insert? This allows me to put in a Jotul 550 or Hampton HI300 instead of a Jotul 350 or Hampton HI200!
